I made a new thing — MyLo, an editor for engineers

An AI code editor that does not push Agent Mode on you, works with OpenRouter and the major providers, and is built with SSH and DevOps work in mind. Not finished, but the core works.

Hello Everyone!

I made a new thing! I don't like how Cursor is shoving Agent Mode down the throat for developers, so I built my own version. It works with OpenRouter and the other major providers. It's still not ready, but the core functions work, with some quality of life improvements to work with SSH sessions and DevOps.

It's called MyLo, and you can download the Mac app (Apple silicon) at akibrk.com/mylo.

What's in it

  • You pick the mode. Ask (read only), Plan (writes a plan, no code) and Agent (changes files and runs commands). Nothing runs on its own unless you chose Agent.
  • Bring your own model. OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek and other OpenAI-compatible providers, or a model running on your machine with Ollama. Keys stay on your machine.
  • SSH and DevOps. Named environments (SSH hosts and Docker) that the agent can work on. Read-only commands run, anything that changes something asks first, dangerous ones are refused. Secrets in output are masked, every command goes to an audit log, and there are tools for logs and container state.
  • Background tasks you can see. Dev servers and watchers run as jobs with their output, a live timer on every tool call, and Stop and Restart buttons in the chat and in an Activity view.
  • A page preview in the editor. When a dev server prints its address the page opens in a tab, with a phone/tablet width switch, a screenshot button and "open in browser". Open any HTML file with Live Server and it reloads as you save. Agents can take a screenshot of what they built to check it.
  • Context you can see. A ring shows how full the model's window is, chats compact themselves before they overflow, and old tool output is trimmed so long runs stay cheap.
  • A code index that stays out of your repo. Local search over your code, saved outside the project, with optional embeddings.
  • Several repositories in one workspace, with each chat pointed at the one it works on.
  • Everything an editor needs. It is built on Eclipse Theia, so VS Code extensions work, plus Markdown preview with Mermaid and math, and image, audio and video preview.

The Mac app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.
